VISUALIZE TRUE Real-Time STREAMING DATA FEEDS

Real Time Business Intelligence Software

Panopticon's software is completely unique in its ability to handle true real-time streaming data feeds from Reuters, Bloomberg and Sonic MQ message queues. This is one of the reasons the world’s major financial institutions rely on Panopticon Visual Business Intelligence software to improve decision-making, reporting and analysis capabilities. Panopticon's ability to visualize real-time streaming data is based on our unique StreamCube™ OLAP data model.

Real-Time Streaming Data in Business Intelligence Treemap

This image shows how Panopticon Visual Business Intelligence software can display a real-time streaming feed from Reuters in a Treemap. Our R&D team implemented new visualization techniques that make it easy to understand and interpret real-time updates.

Visualize True Real-Time Streaming Feeds

The idea of “real-time” can be very confusing, since virtually all software companies that do visualizations say they can handle “real-time” requirements. However, what most of them mean is that their software goes out and requests an update from an external data source when the data is needed. For example, a system might make an update request in order to generate a new graph. The system pulls the updated data from the external source and uses it in the display, and – at the moment when the data was pulled. The data is accurate as of that exact moment, but it becomes out-of-date immediately since no further updates are available until a complete refresh is done. What we mean by “streaming real-time” is that data is constantly being pushed into our system and therefore into the visualization by an external source – not at a regular interval, but instantly, as-it-happens and on a tick-by-tick basis.

All of our products support true real-time streaming data: Developer SDK, the Explorer desktop product, and our Enterprise web-deployed software.

Our Enterprise software employs a service-oriented architecture that allows us to support real-time streaming data in a web-deployed environment. Enterprise is the only product on the market that supports interactive visualizations on the web using real-time streaming data. The unique web services architecture supports transfer of XML data through the ports reserved for HTTP streams. Enterprise provides a completely secure way to let your users see real-time streaming data in their browsers.

Lightstreamer enables information visualization for real-time streaming dataLightstreamer is a very high performance tool that enables display of real-time streaming data in browsers. Lightstreamer gives us some unique capabilities and allows us to deliver real-time streaming data from a wide variety of sources to web clients. The Lightstreamer system supports Java and .NET environments, which is a critical factor for high quality visual business intelligence systems.

“A major client asked us to add real-time streaming capabilities to our products in order to better align their business processes with their real-world requirements. We now offer products that support Sonic MQ, Bloomberg and Reuters feeds — these are true real-time streaming feeds with values that change hundreds of times per second."

"This was a significant development effort and required us to completely rethink how our data model works. This capability is right in line with our strategy of providing world class visualization tools. Our support for true real-time streaming feeds is completely unique in the industry.”

Get the Numbers Right

Getting the numbers right is critical in any information visualization application. Our software supports dynamic calculations using combinations of live data from sources like Bloomberg, Reuters or internal real-time systems and historical databases. The software handles multiple data sources too; you aren't limited to a single spreadsheet or database to combine with your real-time feeds. The system applies your calculations and formulas to incoming data on-the-fly and presents the results visually in real time. For example, you can join data in an Excel spreadsheet with live real-time data from Reuters and program calculations using Excel-like formulas. Then you can see and interactively analyze the results using our interactive Treemaps, Barseries, Horizons or Stacked Area visualization tools.

Speed Matters

Data aggregation mechanisms that work in real-time require sophisticated programming techniques that must be carefully implemented. Simple chart libraries cannot support calculations using real-time data. The design of our software guarantees calculation performance so that overall system performance is not affected as real-time data streams into the system; it allows users to work with real-time data feeds that may be changing hundreds of times per second.

Visual Alerts Notify You in Real-Time on an Exception Basis

You can pair conditional statements based on any part of the data with visual alerts that are triggered when a specific set of conditions is fulfilled. Other visual alerts indicate when and where there is an update in the data. The visual alerts are extremely powerful. For example, if you are monitoring trade activities or exposure risks, they will let you know instantly when certain trouble conditions are present so that you can take immediate action.

Our highly interactive software lets you explore and visually analyze huge amounts of real-time data with simple drag and drop operations. Start with the big picture and explore interesting aspects of your data in further detail. Interactively filter and get rid of irrelevant data. Navigate through your data through simple mouse operations similar to how you surf the net. Save your favorite views and share your findings with your colleagues and customers.
